Correction for Conserved Actin Cysteine Residues Are Oxidative Stress Sensors That Can Regulate Cell Death in Yeast

We regret to report that there is a flaw in some of the data reported in the article. We have recently determined that a background mutation arose during the construction of the oye strains and that this mutation is responsible for the ROS accumulation, accelerated aging, and apoptotic markers reported for the oye strains. We have identified the background mutation that is causing the reported phenotype, and it is a recessive loss of function mutation in the gene ASC1. Furthermore, neither the act1C285A nor the act1C374A alleles suppress the accelerated aging defects caused by the asc1 background mutation. The corresponding author, David C. Amberg, takes complete responsibility for this error and greatly regrets any inconvenience his error has caused to his colleagues in the field.
